Airdrie Taekwondo Club Information

What is Taekwondo?

Taekwondo as a sport has over 60 million practitioners in 184 countries. It originates from South Korea where the world governing body, the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), is currently based. The modern form of Taekwondo was not agreed until 1955, but the sport has its roots in various Korean forms of martial arts stretching back more than 2,000 years.

The name Taekwondo literally translates as the way of the foot and the fist. ‘Tae’ means to break or attack with the foot, ‘kwon’ means to break with the fist and ‘do’ translates as the art or way.

Five basic tenets that serve as a guide for all Taekwondo students are: – Courtesy / Integrity / Perseverance / Self-Control / Indomitable Spirit

About Our Club

We offer you the chance to learn to spar, defend yourself, get fit, and have fun! Our main instructor Mr Chesworth is a 6th Degree black belt and has been training in the art of Tae kwon do since 1988. He is also a black belt in Judo, Karate and Kung Fu and has also trained extensively in the arts of Aikido and Krav Maga. He is also a member of the Self Defence Federation

Ranging from complete novices to international standard black belts, our club is open to all and classes are tailored to suit your level – complete beginners are always welcome. We train fitness, strength, stamina, agility, flexibility and of course skill – you won’t find another club like us.

We are an ITF club but welcome members from all associations and organisations, including WTF, GTUK, TAGB etc.

The training and qualifications you gain with us are fully certified by the ITF (International Taekwondo Federation) and are recognised throughout the world! Also, not everyone in the club competes – many people come along purely for the outstanding fitness and social atmosphere – so don’t worry if you’re not the competitive type!

Andrew Chesworth School of Taekwondo is dedicated to improving the Taekwondo experience at the lowest possible costs for students. The club strives to keep standards high and adheres to the Tenets of Taekwondo and the original teachings of the founder General Choi Hong Hi.
